Lead singer Gladys Knight's brother Bubba Knight was the unofficial leader of the family group and was credited with solving Pips' business problems. "Gladys Knight & The Pips" developed from the Pips. Pips was founded in Atlanta in 1952, with Gladys, Bubba, her sister Brenda, as well as cousins Eleanor and William Guest singing the dinner club documentaries of the week and gospel music on Sundays.
